Redcliffe & Temple BID reveals new summer outdoor area for city workers in Temple Quay

Free and open for everyone to enjoy.

13/07/2023

To make the most of the summer’s sunny days and warm evenings, Redcliffe & Temple Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with City Dressing have created a new outdoor area in Temple Quay for the city’s office workers and visitors to enjoy over the coming weeks.

From July 13 through to September, Glass Wharf’s ‘Summer on the Quay’ area will offer the perfect spot for a catch up with colleagues, to enjoy a lunch break away from the office or meet friends after work, in a calm, beautiful setting with furniture and seating surrounded by plants.

Divided into an upper and lower area on Glass Wharf, this new installation in the heart of the city will feature casual meeting spaces overlooking the quay and a selection of fun outdoor games that can be played with colleagues and friends, giving the ideal opportunity to step outside the office for some fresh air and open space. Games include shuffleboard, quoits, ladder golf and corn hole, and are available weather dependent from 12-6pm on weekdays.

In keeping with the aesthetics of the river, the lower area of Glass Quay will be transformed to resemble the deck of a liner with giant shuffle boards and games for some fun in the sun. Office workers from the Temple Quay businesses and those working in or near to the area can take a break from their busy day or extend their time in the city into the evening soaking up the late afternoon sun.

This exciting summer makeover also includes the installation of four beautifully decorated flower benches in Temple Back East and Rivergate. Each bench has been decorated based on a Bristol / South West charity to help create awareness and raise money for each charity and will each feature a QR code to allow donations. The charities being supported by the benches are TAP for Bristol, Grassroot Communities, Avon Wildlife Trust and Changes Bristol. The benches provide an additional place to sit and take a break as well as a casual meeting space, and their stunning appearance will make the perfect spot for a selfie!

Across the full installation, all materials used have been upcycled or use recycled materials to support the Redcliffe & Temple BID’s sustainable approach in the city and reduce carbon footprint.

Steve Bluff, Head of Redcliffe & Temple BID, said;

Bristol is a wonderful place in every season and the summer offers so much to those working and living in the city. We are always looking at ways to make Redcliffe & Temple an enjoyable place to work and create environments that will make spending time in the office even more appealing. We’re hoping that ‘Summer on the Quay’ will be another reason people choose to work from their office, offering an additional outdoor space for face-to-face catch ups with their team. Throughout the working day and into the evening, people can use this area for team bonding over a game of shuffleboard, to hold a meeting ‘al fresco’ or eat lunch with colleagues, making more of the city across the summer months.

Jeremy Rucker, Director at City Dressing added;

This area in Glass Wharf will be the first multi-functional outdoor seating installation in this part of Bristol. Built as a place to meet, gather and play it will make the whole experience of coming back to the office so much more fun. It will be a real asset to the area that also compliments the existing architecture.

Kerry Clorley, Building Manager, HM Revenue & Customs added;

Thank you to Redcliffe & Temple BID for the lovely outdoor area installed at Glass Wharf. It’s an extremely beautiful area for staff to relax by the waterside and soak in their surroundings which apart from the river includes the historic Bristol Temple Meads train station. If you’re very lucky you might even spot the Belmond British pullman luxury train.
