Redcliffe & Temple BID reveals new summer outdoor area for city workers in Temple Quay.

Project Type
CREATING & MAINTAINING QUALITY SPACE
Date
July 2023

To make the most of the summer’s sunny days and warm evenings, Redcliffe & Temple Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with City Dressing have created a new outdoor area in Temple Quay for the city’s office workers and visitors to enjoy over the coming weeks.

From July 13 through to September 2023, Glass Wharf’s ‘Summer on the Quay’ area will offer the perfect spot for a catch up with colleagues, to enjoy a lunch break away from the office or meet friends after work, in a calm, beautiful setting with furniture and seating surrounded by plants.

Outdoor Games

Divided into an upper and lower area on Glass Wharf, the installation in the heart of the city will feature casual meeting spaces overlooking the quay and a selection of fun outdoor games that can be played with colleagues and friends, giving the ideal opportunity to step outside the office for some fresh air and open space. Games include shuffleboard, quoits, ladder golf and corn hole, and are available weather dependent from 12-6pm on weekdays. In keeping with the aesthetics of the river, the lower area of Glass Quay will be transformed to resemble the deck of a liner with giant shuffle boards and games for some fun in the sun.

Office workers from the Temple Quay businesses and those working in or near to the area can take a break from their busy day or extend their time in the city into the evening soaking up the late afternoon sun.

Flower Charity Benches

This exciting summer makeover also includes the installation of four beautifully decorated flower benches in Temple Back East and Rivergate. Each bench has been decorated based on a Bristol / South West charity to help create awareness and raise money for each charity and will each feature a QR code to allow donations. The charities being supported by the benches are TAP for Bristol, Grassroot Communities, Avon Wildlife Trust and Changes Bristol.

The benches provide an additional place to sit and take a break as well as a casual meeting space, and their stunning appearance will make the perfect spot for a selfie! Across the full installation, all materials used have been upcycled or use recycled materials to support the Redcliffe & Temple BID’s sustainable approach in the city and reduce carbon footprint.

Sweet Mondays

We encouraged local workers and residents to join us every Monday lunchtime between 31 July and 21 August to enjoy free sweet treats from local bakeries and cafes whilst enjoying our outside seating and games at Temple Quay. Harts Bakery, Small Goods, Double Puc and Mokoko offered out free baked goods in their pop ups next to the outdoor furniture on Glass Wharf.
